Associate of Science in Diagnostic Medical Sonography Technology
 

Description
The Diagnostic Medical Sonography Technology Program presents an integration of didactic, laboratory and clinical experiences. The program prepares students to function as entry-level Diagnostic Medical Sonographers. Sonographers are highly skilled professionals qualified to provide patient services using diagnostic techniques under the supervision of a licensed doctor of medicine or osteopathy and assist physicians in gathering data necessary to reach diagnostic decisions.

Students who have successfully met all educational and institutional requirements for an associate degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography Technology are eligible to take the national registry examinations to become a certified Sonographer.

Objectives
This program will prepare students for employment as entry-level Diagnostic Medical Sonographers who act in a professional and ethical manner as entry-level Sonographers, students who are knowledgeable in general sonography, ultrasound physics and instrumentation and the program will prepare students to perform appropriate two-dimensional, Doppler and other sonographic procedures and record data for interpretation by a physician.

Prerequisites
Admission into the College

  • Have a high school diploma or G.E.D.
  • Pass the entrance examination

Prerequisites for Major Courses

  • Background check and drug screening where applicable
  • Completion of lower division general education courses with a minimum grade of "C" in each course
  • Cumulative grade average of 3.0 on a 4.0 scale

Course Outline
To receive an Associate of Science degree in Diagnostic Medical Sonography, students must earn 91.0 credit hours. This Associate of Science Degree program can be completed in 24 months for full-time day students.
